"My wife and I became involved with MASK two years ago to learn more about some of the realities that our children face on a daily basis. Of course not unlike many parents we assumed that while the risks of drugs and alcohol are there, our children of course would be unaffected because they are being raised in a "good and safe" environment. The reality is no matter how you raise your children they can become susceptible to peer pressure and the need to "fit in" with others.
Since we have become active in MASK we have taken the following steps to help insure our children's safety:
1. The liquor cabinet @ home is locked and the key to the cabinet is kept in a safe.
2. Random alcohol and drug testing of our teenage sons.
3. When spending the night @ a friends house we require verification via a phone call from one of the other parents from a land line to confirm
that our child is @ their home and they are there as well..."trust, but verify".
Recently we received a phone call from another mom who informed us that her son and some other boys, including one of our sons, had taken her car out without permission. She also found evidence that the boys had been smoking marijuana in her car. When she questioned her son about who was participating in that part of the evening he said "all of the boys , except for one, because his parents drug test him" !
While we were disappointed that our son made the choice to get into the car that evening, we were relieved to learn that the random drug screening was effective as it gave our son an excuse for not participating.
In the end it is up to our children to make the right choices @ those critical moments, but it is our responsibility as parents to be involved and even intrusive at times as we have a responsibility to do all we can to educate, prepare and protect our children...MASK provides you with the information you need as a parent to do just that!"

Everyone involved with MASK, volunteers their time and endless energy. It is our passion to expose youth to the negative possibilities, and equip them with tools to make safe choices.
We have designed parent school representative roles, with the understanding that we are all busy parents. Our philosophy is whatever you can do to help...HELPS!
